Spiced Old Fashioned
The Spiced Old Fashioned is the the Rum Lover's quintessential Fall or Winter go-to drink. Made with dark rum, spiced maple syrup and an array of bitters, this seasonal favorite is rich, bold and delectable. It contains dynamic tasting notes of cinnamon, oak and butter and is perfect for a cozy night in, a holiday gathering or seasonal cocktail hour.
INGREDIENTS
- 2oz Ten To One Dark
0.50oz Spiced Maple Syrup*
2 Dashes Black Walnut Bitters
1 Dash Angostura Bitters
GARNISH
Cinnamon Stick
Orange Swath
INSTRUCTIONS
1: CREATE THE SYRUP Combine 1 cup of maple syrup (Grade A preferred), 1/2 cup of water, 1 cinnamon stick, 3 cloves, 2 cardamom pods, 1 star anise, 2 slices of fresh ginger, and 1 peeled orange. Bring everything to a boil in a pot. Cool to room temperature. Strain and refrigerate.
2: COMBINE THE INGREDIENTS Once the spiced maple syrup is ready, combine 1/2 ounce of it with 2 oz Ten To One Dark Rum, 2 Dashes Black Walnut Bitters, 1 Dash Angostura Bitters and stir in a mixing glass with ice
3: TRANSFER INGREDIENTS Once thoroughly stirred, move ingredients from mixing glass into a rocks glass with an oversized ice cube
4: GARNISH Pinch orange peel over cocktail to add zest to the recipe. Add cinnamon stick for additional aesthetic! Enjoy!
*SPICED MAPLE SYRUP
